Our last foal is finally on the ground! 3/7 are fillies, which is a much better ratio than I have had in the last 6-sumthin seasons. I've got way too many nice stallions now as a result, but this season it kinda seems like the colts were cursed.
The first baby to hit the ground was a nice filly out of Breathtaking Tattoo and by Lets Play Doctor. Good temperament, striking frame overo pattern. Just a lovely little girl. I've named her "The Nurse With The Tattoos." She is progressing well.
The second to foal was my GCh mare, Obey In Silence. She gave me a grey filly by my favorite stallion with extraordinary movement, No Sunlight Here. We've name the baby Silence Will Fall, for all the Doctor Who fans out there. This one should be a stunner!
Then we got our first colt of the season, a bay out of ACh Up 'Til Dawn and by Lets Play Doctor. First impression I'm not impressed. He only has an average temperament, and since I have so many studs already, I have to be really harsh when culling males. I'll keep him at least until he is 2, to see how he turns out.
Fourth foal was another filly, who I am in love with. She is out of my new mare, The Nurse, and sired by No Sunlight Here. This girl has a lot of energy, a good temperament, and for a grey she is pretty. I can't wait to watch her grow up.
The next three foals to come were all colts, and all but one have unexpected average temperaments. Ugh. The last foal to come today has an average temperament too, but his sire has an average temperament, so it wasn't too much of a surprise. I'll be keeping them all until 2 probably, and then I am going to have to make some hard decisions.
Overall though, I am very happy with this years crop and I should have some pretty nice show horses here. I've got 5 due next season (all took on the first try too! woot!) so I will have to update my broodmare barn soon.
